AM Best Upgrades MS Reinsurance Issuer Credit Rating to 'aa'
AM Best has upgraded the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (Long-Term ICR) of MS Amlin AG, also known as MS Reinsurance, to “aa” (Superior) from “aa-” (Superior). Concurrently, the agency affirmed the company’s Financial Strength Rating (FSR) at A+ (Superior) with a stable outlook. The Long-Term ICR outlook was revised to stable from positive. This upgrade reflects the assignment of full rating enhancement to MS Reinsurance, driven by its increased strategic and financial importance to its parent company, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Limited (MSI). AM Best cited MSI’s strongest consolidated balance sheet strength, strong operating performance, favorable business profile, and appropriate enterprise risk management as key factors. The rating extension is supported by implicit and explicit backing from MSI, including a full unconditional parental guarantee. MS Reinsurance has significantly expanded in recent years, becoming a crucial component of the MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings’ strategy to diversify its premium and earnings base geographically. With operating hubs in Zurich, Bermuda, and the US, the subsidiary now represents a significant share of the group's international premiums and profits, serving as a key platform for increasing exposure to global markets.
