Benghazi Government Restricts Sumud Convoy Border Crossing to Libyan Citizens
The Benghazi-based government, appointed by Libya's House of Representatives, has announced that only Libyan citizens participating in the Sumud Land Convoy will be permitted to cross land borders into Egypt. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in eastern Libya stated it respects Egypt's sovereign procedures and urged non-Libyan activists to use airports and obtain necessary visas. The Sumud Land Convoy, comprising over 350 activists from 30 countries including Turkey, the USA, and various European and Arab nations, is currently preparing in Zawiya, west of Tripoli. The group aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and break the ongoing blockade. While the Benghazi government expressed appreciation for the convoy's spirit of solidarity with the Palestinian cause, it confirmed that it cannot allow passage for any individual within its jurisdiction who does not meet the specific criteria set by Egyptian border regulations.
