Barcelona School Built by Gaudí Faces Parental Backlash Over Museum Plans
A private Catholic school in Barcelona, Col·legi de les Teresianes, built by Antoni Gaudí between 1888 and 1890, is set to become a museum attraction operated by IngeniaCultura. The museum, approved by the Vatican, is scheduled to open in 2028 and will occupy 3,000 square meters of currently vacant halls, featuring virtual activities and access to gardens and the central courtyard. Parents, led by association chairman Oriol Segarra, protested in June, fearing mass tourism, noise, garbage, and pickpockets similar to other Gaudí sites in Barcelona. The school has over 1,200 students from kindergarten to high school. While some parents oppose the plan outright, Segarra says they await full details before taking a definitive stance, noting a small, discreet museum might be acceptable. The Catalan newspaper Ara defended the plan, citing high maintenance costs for the building.
