Banks and Kim Introduce Bipartisan Stuttering Act with NBA Star Support

U.S. Senators Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Andy Kim (D-N.J.) introduced the Kidd's Stuttering Act on Wednesday, a bipartisan bill aimed at improving early identification and treatment of stuttering in children. The legislation would direct the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to add stuttering and fluency screening to standard pediatric care guidelines. The bill is named after and supported by former NBA player Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who has been open about his own lifelong struggle with stuttering. The proposal seeks to ensure that children who stutter receive timely diagnosis and access to speech therapy, addressing a gap in current pediatric screening protocols.
