Bangkok Police Raid Unlicensed Soap Factory Using Recycled Scraps

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Bangkok raided an unlicensed cosmetic production site after receiving consumer complaints regarding allergic reactions and health issues linked to online soap sales. Investigators discovered a residence in the Bang Khae district converted into a manufacturing facility, operated by a 45-year-old woman named Nongnart. The suspect admitted to producing soap from scraps purchased from various factories at low costs, processing them with salt water and fragrances, and selling the final products via e-commerce platforms. The soaps were marketed with exaggerated claims, such as being made from '100% herbs' and capable of treating skin conditions, despite lacking official approval. The operation produced approximately 1,000 bars daily, generating around 50,000 baht per month. Nongnart, who claimed to have learned manufacturing techniques from YouTube videos, failed to produce valid licenses and was charged under Thailand’s Cosmetic Act for manufacturing and selling counterfeit, unregistered products. Authorities have seized the items for laboratory testing to check for harmful substances, warning that additional charges may follow if prohibited ingredients are found.
