Balassagyarmat Mayor Gábor Csach Resigns from Fidesz Party

Gábor Csach, the long-serving mayor of Balassagyarmat, has announced his departure from the ruling Fidesz party after joining in 1989. In a statement posted on Facebook, Csach clarified that his decision was not primarily driven by recent election defeats but stemmed from deep skepticism regarding the party's ability to renew itself both personally and organizationally. He cited the recent electoral success of the Tisza party as evidence that traditional political structures are no longer effective in contemporary politics. Despite this shift, Csach emphasized that he remains committed to the development of Balassagyarmat, a priority he has pursued for two decades. He stated that he will continue to serve as an independent mayor, maintaining distance from all political parties including Tisza, while upholding his own principles and values. Csach has previously expressed cautious criticism of government policies, such as the removal of business taxes and the closure of the Balassagyarmat-Ipolytarnóc railway line. His exit highlights growing internal dissent within Fidesz at the local level, even as the party retains parliamentary seats in the region.
