Australian Women Arrested Upon Return from ISIS Camps in Syria

Three Australian women, including a mother and her daughter known as the 'ISIS grandmother,' were arrested by police immediately after returning to Australia from detention camps in Syria. They had spent years in facilities holding families of ISIS fighters following the collapse of the terrorist group's caliphate. The women arrived with nine children, who will undergo monitoring for radicalization and reintegration programs. Two women, Kawsar Abbas and Zainab Ahmad, were arrested at Melbourne Airport, facing charges related to enslavement and crimes against humanity. A third woman, Janai Spar, was arrested at Sydney Airport and charged with membership in a terrorist organization. Another woman, Zahra Ahmad, was not arrested but was shielded from media by a group of men. The Australian government stated it lacked the legal authority to prevent citizens from returning but warned that those who committed crimes would face full legal consequences.
