Scott Barnes, a lifelong Aston Villa supporter, made the emotional decision to sell his late father's diamond ring to fund his trip to the Europa League final in Istanbul. After successfully securing a ticket through a ballot for the match against Freiburg, Barnes realized he could not afford the travel costs. Prompted by his partner, he sold the gold ring, which featured nine diamonds and was purchased by his father in 1988, along with a watch for £550. The sale took place in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, where Barnes broke down in tears upon receiving the money. His father, John Barnes, had been a significant support figure during Scott's recovery from severe health complications following gastric bypass surgery in 2009. Although his father never watched football, Scott's uncles introduced him to the club, leading to cherished memories like the 1982 European Cup win.
