Anthropic escalates AI regulation proxy war with $40 million political spending ahead of midterms
Anthropic has announced a $20 million donation to Public First Action, a nonprofit aligned with three super PACs, bringing its total spending to $40 million. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has been the most vocal AI leader calling for stringent regulation, proposing an agency similar to the FAA to mandate testing of advanced AI models before release. The Trump administration and some industry figures have warned against such mandatory reviews. The donations come ahead of November's midterm elections, with Anthropic framing the spending as raising the urgency of AI policy debates.
