AMC CEO declares streaming vs. theaters debate over after record Q2 results
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron declared that the long-running debate over whether streaming would permanently replace movie theaters is over, citing record-breaking Q2 2026 financial results. AMC reported its highest-ever quarterly revenue of $1.597 billion, up 14.2% year-over-year, with adjusted EBITDA surging 69.6% to $321.4 million. Attendance rose 13.5% to 71.3 million guests, and free cash flow reached $190.1 million. Aron pointed to a strong movie slate, with six films opening above $75 million domestically in Q2, including Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' at $124 million. The domestic box office reached $2.99 billion in Q2, the fifth-best quarter ever. AMC's stock is up 44.23% year-to-date. Aron stated that studios are increasingly producing films designed for the big screen, rebutting the narrative that streaming would dominate content distribution.
