Alaska Asks Over 3,000 Voters to Verify Citizenship After Data Error

Alaska election officials have sent more than 3,000 letters to voters asking them to verify their citizenship ahead of the August 18 primary election. The action follows a data mix-up between state agencies that may have inadvertently added noncitizens to the voter rolls. Alaska Division of Elections Director Carol Beecher disclosed the error during a hearing with state lawmakers, stating that the division is working to correct the rolls and ensure only eligible citizens vote. The letters are part of an effort to maintain election integrity and prevent potential illegal voting, though officials have not confirmed how many noncitizens were actually added.
