400 NEET protesters detained in Mumbai; Aditya Thackeray visits police station
On July 22, 2026, Mumbai police detained over 400 protesters at Shivaji Park and Chembur during demonstrations demanding action over an alleged NEET paper leak. Prohibitory orders had been enforced at both locations. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray and MNS leader Amit Thackeray visited the Dadar police station, leading to the release of many detainees. Actor Ayesha Khan and stand-up comedians Abish Matthew and Raunaq Rajani were among those detained and later released. Congress leaders were also detained and released. Police registered cases for violating prohibitory orders. Security was tightened across Mumbai following the protests.
