Starting public context: The CDU parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt has decided that its 15 lawmakers will leave the Magdeburg plenary chamber during the December minister-president election, in which AfD state leader Ulrich Siegmund is standing. The faction voted 14-1 with one abstention after over three hours of debate. The move aims to prevent CDU defectors from helping Siegmund reach the 42 votes needed, after AfD candidate Tobias Rausch won the Landtag presidency with 48 votes despite AfD and BSW holding only 44 seats. The CDU plans to skip the first two rounds but return for a possible third.
