Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee lost the Democratic primary to former CVS executive Helena Foulkes, becoming the first sitting U.S. governor to lose a primary since 2018. The defeat was driven by public anger over the closure of the Washington Bridge, which caused severe traffic disruptions. Foulkes won by a 24-point margin. In a separate upset, socialist state legislator David Morales defeated incumbent Providence Mayor Brett Smiley.
