Zeekr Recalls 38,277 Zeekr 001 WE 86 Vehicles Over Battery Safety Risks
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr has announced a voluntary recall of 38,277 units of its older Zeekr 001 WE 86 models. The affected vehicles were manufactured between July 2021 and March 2024. The recall addresses potential safety risks associated with the internal power battery components. Zeekr identified manufacturing consistency deviations in these components, which may cause abnormal increases in internal resistance after prolonged use. This issue can lead to performance degradation and, in extreme scenarios, poses a risk of thermal runaway. Starting March 6, the company will invite affected owners to service centers in batches for inspections, remote diagnostics, and free replacement of the battery packs. Zeekr clarified that the recall does not impact currently available models and emphasized that its cloud-based monitoring system continues to track vehicle safety. The existing warranty policies remain unchanged, offering lifetime coverage for first owners and an eight-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty for subsequent owners. This proactive measure aims to ensure customer safety and maintain brand reliability amidst growing competition in the EV market.
