Zeekr Announces First PHEV Model 9X Without All-Electric Variant
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr has announced that its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the 9X, will not have an all-electric variant. Scheduled for release this autumn, the 9X is priced between RMB 500,000 and RMB 600,000 ($69,700-$83,640). This model marks the debut of Zeekr’s Super Hybrid System, featuring a 900-volt electrical architecture that enables rapid charging from 20% to 80% in just nine minutes, significantly faster than the standard 400-volt systems found in most current EVs. The vehicle is equipped with a 70 kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, offering an all-electric range of 380 km. This range surpasses key competitors like Li Auto’s L9 and Aito’s M9, which offer less than 300 km in electric mode. During a briefing with reporters, Zeekr Vice President Xu Yun noted that while the current range is competitive, achieving a 1,000 km range for a full-size all-electric SUV remains technologically unachievable at present. The announcement highlights Zeekr's strategic focus on hybrid technology to address range anxiety while leveraging high-voltage infrastructure for efficiency.
