A 16-year-old boy was killed and a 16-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting on Wednesday afternoon near Hyde Park Academy High School on Chicago's South Side. The incident occurred just after 3:20 p.m. at a bus stop in the 6300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, located less than a block from the school and three blocks from the planned Obama Presidential Center site. According to Chicago police, an individual approached the teenagers and opened fire. The male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to UChicago Medicine in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. The female victim was shot in the left leg and remains in fair condition at the same hospital. Following the shooting, Hyde Park Academy initiated a soft lockdown while dismissing students.
