Xpeng Unveils 2026 Robotaxi Plan and IRON Humanoid Robot
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng announced its strategic shift toward physical AI at an event in Guangzhou, revealing plans for three self-developed Robotaxi models and the next-generation IRON humanoid robot, both targeted for 2026. The Robotaxis will feature Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, powered by four Turing AI chips delivering 3,000 TOPS of computing power. Utilizing a pure vision solution without reliance on lidar or high-definition maps, these vehicles aim to adapt to complex global road environments. AMap has been confirmed as the first ecosystem partner, enabling users to book rides directly through its platform. Simultaneously, Xpeng introduced IRON, a biomimetic humanoid robot under 170 cm tall with over 60 joints and an all-solid-state battery. Currently undergoing practical training in Xpeng’s factories for tasks like sorting and transport, IRON integrates advanced AI systems for complex interactions. The company aims to begin mass production of IRON by the end of 2026, initially focusing on factory automation before expanding to household applications. This initiative marks Xpeng’s evolution from a traditional carmaker to a global embodied intelligence company.
