Xiaomi's Wuhan Smart Home Factory Targets Year-End AC Production
Xiaomi is nearing the completion of its first dedicated smart home appliance factory in Wuhan, with mass production of self-developed air-conditioners scheduled to begin by the end of 2025. Shan Lianyu, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Home Appliances Department, revealed that the facility features a high degree of automation and includes six sub-factories and over 100 laboratories. This strategic shift from contract manufacturing to self-built production aims to enhance product independence and address previous concerns regarding design originality. The move positions Xiaomi to directly challenge established domestic rivals like Gree and Midea by offering high-specification products at competitive prices. CEO Lei Jun confirmed the rapid construction progress, noting the main structure was capped in just 80 days. Xiaomi co-founder Lu Weibing stated the company aims to rank third in domestic air-conditioner sales this year and become a leading brand within five years. Currently holding a 7.01% market share, Xiaomi seeks to capitalize on China’s growing air-conditioner market, which saw 102 million units shipped in 2024. This facility completes Xiaomi’s full-ecosystem strategy for self-built smart manufacturing, following its automobile and smartphone factories.
