DP World Launches Solar Project in Dominican Republic to Cut CO2 Emissions
DP World has officially commissioned a new solar power installation at its logistics hub in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. The 5,120-kilowatt solar plant, covering 18,000 square meters, is designed to reduce the terminal's reliance on fossil fuels by 15% and supply 10% of its total electricity demand. This initiative is expected to cut carbon emissions by more than 3,500 tons annually. The project aligns with DP World’s Global Decarbonization Strategy, which aims for a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. Manuel Martínez, CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic, highlighted that the investment enhances energy efficiency and infrastructure resilience while supporting long-term trade growth across the Americas. This installation complements other ongoing environmental initiatives, including the use of electric cargo handling equipment and energy-efficient infrastructure.
