Wind and Solar Share in Türkiye's Electricity Capacity Reaches 33%
As of the end of March 2026, the combined share of wind and solar energy in Türkiye's total installed electricity capacity has risen to 33%, according to data from the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAŞ) compiled by Anadolu Agency. The country's total installed capacity reached 124,891 megawatts (MW). This growth is driven by strategic investments aimed at reducing the current account deficit caused by fossil fuel imports and rising energy demand. Specifically, installed solar capacity increased by 17.3% to 26,339 MW, while wind capacity grew by 14% to 15,066 MW compared to the previous year. Overall renewable energy capacity, including hydroelectric, geothermal, and bioenergy, now accounts for 62.1% of the total, surpassing 77,000 MW. Solar energy leads in the number of facilities with nearly 40,000 plants. These developments highlight Türkiye's accelerating transition toward renewable sources to meet growing domestic needs and improve economic stability through reduced reliance on imported fuels.
