WHO Hub Identifies Research Priorities for Pandemic Intelligence
Pandemic and epidemic intelligence plays a critical role in integrating surveillance data with contextual knowledge to assess health risks and guide public health decisions. Despite significant investments accelerating innovation in surveillance systems, current research efforts remain fragmented both thematically and geographically. Furthermore, the translation of scientific insights into actionable policy and practice is inconsistent globally. To address these systemic gaps, the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, working in collaboration with global partners, conducted a comprehensive research prioritisation exercise. This initiative aimed to identify key research gaps and opportunities to strengthen the field. By consolidating efforts and focusing on priority areas, the exercise seeks to enhance the coherence and effectiveness of pandemic intelligence frameworks. The findings are intended to support more robust public health responses and ensure that data-driven insights are effectively utilized in decision-making processes worldwide, ultimately improving preparedness for future health emergencies.
