WeRide Launches Europe’s First Autonomous Airport Shuttle in Zurich
Chinese autonomous driving startup WeRide has announced the launch of Europe’s first commercial self-driving bus shuttle service at Zurich Airport, scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2025. This landmark initiative is developed in partnership with Flughafen Zürich AG, the airport’s owner and operator, and the Swiss Transit Lab (STL). The fully automated robo-bus service will initially transport airport employees along a dedicated route connecting the employee entrance at Gate 101 to the maintenance area at Gate 130. Each vehicle can accommodate up to nine passengers. During the initial phase, a safety driver will remain on board to ensure operational security. In addition to the shuttle service, WeRide has completed route mapping for its self-driving taxis at Zurich Airport, signaling preparations for broader autonomous vehicle applications within Switzerland.
