Vector Researchers Win Top Honours at NeurIPS 2018
Researchers from the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence achieved significant recognition at NeurIPS 2018, the premier global conference for machine learning and computational neuroscience. Vector faculty members and students secured two of the four prestigious Best Paper awards and one Best Student Paper award. David Duvenaud, along with students Jesse Bettencourt, Yulia Rubanova, and Ricky Chen from the University of Toronto, won a Best Paper award for their work on Neural Ordinary Differential Equations. Additionally, Shai Ben-David from the University of Waterloo and Hassan Ashtiani received a Best Paper award for their research on sample complexity bounds for learning mixtures of Gaussians. A third honor, the Best Student Paper Award at the Advances in Approximate Bayesian Inference Workshop, was awarded to Will Grathwohl, Ricky Chen, and Jesse Bettencourt for their paper on FFJORD generative models.
