Vector Researchers Release CiteNet Search Tool to Aid COVID-19 Research
In response to the White House's call to action for the tech community to assist in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers from the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence have released a demo version of CiteNet. This new scientific paper search and visualization tool is designed to help scientists quickly access and analyze the most recent research findings. Developed by Vector students Duncan Forster and John Giorgi under the supervision of Faculty Member Bo Wang, CiteNet indexes pre-print servers bioRxiv and medRxiv, which host completed but not yet peer-reviewed studies. Unlike traditional keyword-based search engines, CiteNet utilizes natural language processing and machine learning to identify semantic similarities between documents, ranking results based on their relevance to inputted papers. The tool is updated daily to ensure it captures the latest available data. Although still in development, the team aims to provide a vital resource for the global scientific community, facilitating faster literature reviews and accelerating contributions to the fight against the coronavirus.
