Vector Institute and Be Node Announce Funding for Global AI Climate Action Projects
The Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Be Node, a platform of the Turkish Informatics Foundation, have announced the recipients of project funding under the Global AI Alliance for Climate Action. This initiative pairs climate NGOs with Vector’s AI researchers to develop scalable solutions for environmental challenges. The selected projects include a collaboration with CleanTech21 to optimize renewable energy flow in Switzerland using reinforcement learning; a partnership with the USA National Phenology Network to enhance species tracking via large language models; and a joint effort with The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation Canada and the Internet Society Kyrgyzstan Chapter to predict heatwaves and associated disasters. Announced following the AI for Climate Summit in Istanbul, the alliance aims to leverage AI’s transformative power while addressing its own environmental costs. By combining technical AI expertise with critical real-world datasets from NGOs, the program seeks to accelerate the deployment of sustainable technologies in areas such as energy efficiency, extreme weather prediction, and ecological monitoring, marking a significant step in international collaborative climate action.
