The Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence has announced its commitment to support Ontario’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic by providing specialized computing infrastructure and data science expertise. Garth Gibson, President and CEO of the Vector Institute, stated that 240 high-performance NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 GPUs, originally intended for other uses, would be repurposed for the Ontario Pandemic Threat Response (PANTHR) project. This computational power aims to facilitate data-intensive analysis across the province's health system, offering critical insights into virus spread, asymptomatic transmission, resource allocation for tests and ventilators, and supply chain stabilization. Additionally, the Institute is collaborating with the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society at the University of Toronto.
