Vector Institute Awards Nearly $2 Million in AI Scholarships to Ontario Master’s Students
The Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence has announced the recipients of the 2022-23 Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence (VSAI). A total of 110 master’s students across Ontario will receive merit-based scholarships valued at $17,500 each, amounting to nearly $2 million in total funding. This initiative aims to foster the growth of top AI talent within the province and support students pursuing recognized master’s programs or individual AI study paths. The scholarship program, now in its fifth round since its 2018 launch, connects high-performing students with industry leaders and researchers through networking events and career support via Vector’s Digital Talent Hub. To date, over 850 Vector-affiliated students have been hired by Ontario companies. This year's cohort represents 13 universities, contributing to the milestone of over 1,000 students graduating from Ontario AI master’s programs, surpassing the province's target for annual graduates. The awards highlight the region's commitment to building a robust, workforce-ready AI sector by attracting domestic and international talent to fields ranging from computer science to health informatics.
