VACB Launches 'Operation Earth Guard' to Curb Illegal Soil Mining in Kerala

Teams conducted simultaneous raids at 72 locations, including all 14 district Mining and Geology offices and 58 local self-government institutions. Officials report that permits for commercial and residential construction are being misused to excavate and transport earth beyond sanctioned limits. The investigation highlights alleged collusion between government officials and organized 'soil mafia' groups, who facilitate illegal landscape alteration for real estate purposes in exchange for bribes. Enforcement officers are accused of neglecting their duties, leading to significant government revenue loss through unpaid royalties. This coordinated effort aims to dismantle the network of middlemen and corrupt officials enabling these environmental and legal violations across the state.
