Unfulfilled Promises to Farmers in Jindal Alumina Land Deal After Two Decades

YSRCP MLC Indukuri Raghu Raju has urged the Andhra Pradesh state government to address the grievances of farmers who surrendered 1,166 acres of land for the Jindal Alumina project over twenty years ago. Speaking in Boddavara village, Raju alleged that the conglomerate failed to honor commitments made during land acquisitions in 2002 and 2006, specifically regarding equity share transfers and employment opportunities for the farmers' children. He highlighted that the compensation received was merely ₹2 lakh per acre and argued that since the project was not constructed, the land should be returned to the original owners. Raju further claimed that the government ignored an Andhra Pradesh High Court order mandating due procedure for displaced families. He noted that many affected farmers belong to Scheduled Tribes and are entitled to seek compensation under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. Following previous agitations in Vizianagaram, Vijayawada, and New Delhi, Raju announced plans to approach the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to seek justice for the marginalized communities involved in this long-standing dispute.
