UMS Engineering Students Tackle Shell Case Study on Offshore Asset Optimisation
The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) UMS Student Section at Universiti Malaysia Sabah successfully organized the "Shell Case Study X UMS: Imagine the Future of Late-Life Asset Excellence" program on May 6 in Kota Kinabalu. Collaborating with Shell Malaysia, the Engineering Student Society, and the Faculty of Engineering Student Representative Council, the event aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Approximately 50 engineering students participated in a case study challenge focused on optimizing late-life offshore oil and gas assets facing operational inefficiencies. Participants developed engineering solutions and investment strategies, presenting them to a panel of Shell professionals including Conrad Thomas and Tay Tze-Shing. The program also featured a career-sharing session on the Shell Graduate Programme, where young engineers shared their professional experiences. Supported by faculty deans and IEM leaders, the initiative sought to cultivate critical thinking, technical communication, and problem-solving skills among future engineers.
