The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has launched its 2026–2030 organizational strategy, designed to support the delivery of the STEP Fusion prototype power plant and strengthen the UK’s global leadership in fusion energy. Aligned with the government’s broader Fusion Strategy, the roadmap outlines key objectives for 2030, including completing the detailed design of STEP, expanding the commercial fusion supply chain, and establishing new research facilities at the Culham Campus. The strategy addresses four critical challenges: effective fusion core performance, fuel self-sufficiency, systems integration, and affordability. To achieve these goals, UKAEA will focus on technical disciplines such as plasma control, advanced materials, and robotics, while serving as the technical partner to UK Fusion Energy Ltd. New initiatives include an SME guide for supply chain engagement, the Diagnostics Centre for Excellence, and a robotics skills center in Cumbria.
