Two Drivers Killed in Head-On Truck-Lorry Collision on Khammam-Warangal Highway

A fatal head-on collision between a coal-laden truck and a lorry occurred on the Khammam-Warangal highway in Telangana, India, on May 12, 2026. The accident took place at Mekalathanda village in the Khammam district and resulted in the immediate deaths of both vehicle drivers. The victims have been identified as James, a 58-year-old resident of Pallagiri village in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district, and Prakash, a 35-year-old from Uttar Pradesh. Following the impact, the truck caught fire, causing significant traffic disruptions on the busy highway for approximately one hour. Firefighters faced challenges in extinguishing the blaze, while local police and fire services responded promptly to the scene. The truck’s cleaner survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Khammam for treatment. The Tirumalayapalem police have registered a case regarding the incident and have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident.
