Two Children Die in Accidental Fire at Makeshift Tent in Bengaluru

In a tragic incident in Kothanur, northeastern Bengaluru, two young siblings, five-year-old Arjun and three-year-old Asha, died after a fire broke out in a makeshift labor shed on Monday afternoon. The children, whose parents are daily wage workers from Raichur district, were under the care of their grandmother when the accident occurred. Reports indicate that the grandmother had briefly stepped away to use the washroom, allowing the children to enter a nearby shed where they were playing. The fire spread rapidly, fueled by a large quantity of clothes stored inside, generating dense smoke. Police suspect the children likely suffered asphyxiation from the smoke before sustaining severe burn injuries. One child died at the scene, while the other passed away later at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College Hospital. The Kothanur police, along with Scene of Crime officers and electricity board officials, inspected the site to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and authorities stated that a formal case will be registered upon receiving a complaint from the grieving family.
