Trinamool Congress Kerala Unit Severs Ties with National Leadership to Form New Party

The Kerala state unit of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially severed all ties with its national leadership, announcing plans to launch a new political party by May 15, 2026. P.V. Anvar, the Kerala State convener and former MLA, declared the split during a press conference in Kochi following a state committee meeting. The resolution repositions the group as a secular, democratic, and socialist outfit aligned with the Indian National Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF). Anvar cited the TMC national leadership's refusal to collaborate with the Congress in Kerala, despite earlier assurances, as the primary reason for the breakup. He noted that national leaders avoided campaigning for him in the Beypore assembly polls to prevent undermining their anti-Congress stance in West Bengal. The new entity aims to oppose what Anvar termed 'Pinarayism' and fascism while extending full support to Rahul Gandhi at the national level. This move marks a significant realignment in Kerala's political landscape, strengthening the UDF coalition against the ruling Left Democratic Front and the BJP.
