TMC MLA Madan Mitra Hospitalized in Kolkata for Urinary Issues

Madan Mitra, a prominent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) representing the Kamarhati constituency, was admitted to Belle Vue Clinic, a private hospital in Kolkata, on May 11, 2026. The hospitalization follows complications related to his urinary system. According to hospital officials, Mitra is currently under medical observation but remains in stable condition and is responding positively to treatment. Medical professionals indicated that he could be discharged within one to two days if his health continues to improve. A close aide attributed the health issues to significant physical and mental strain experienced during and after the recently concluded Assembly elections. In these polls, Mitra defeated his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival, Arup Choudhury, by a margin of 5,646 votes. As a former minister in the Mamata Banerjee government, Mitra's health status has drawn attention amidst the post-election political landscape in West Bengal. Doctors have advised him to take complete rest to facilitate a full recovery.
