Three Migrant Youths from UP Drown in Junagadh’s Willingdon Dam
Three young men, including two teenagers, drowned in the Willingdon Dam in Junagadh, Gujarat, on Friday afternoon. The victims were identified as Shivam Bharatdeep Sahi (22), Kalim Salimuddin Shaikh (16), and Hasnain Jilani Shaikh (16), all migrants from the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh working at a local restaurant. According to police, a group of seven friends visited the dam, a popular tourist spot, around 2:30 PM. Four individuals jumped into the water, which is approximately 15-20 feet deep, but only one survived as they lacked swimming skills. Emergency response teams from the police and fire departments arrived after being alerted by the surviving group members. By Friday evening, all three bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations at GMERS Junagadh Civil Hospital. An Accidental Death report has been filed at the Junagadh A Division police station, and the families of the deceased have been notified. The Willingdon Dam, a British-era reservoir built between 1929 and 1936 on the Kalwa River, remains a significant local landmark and tourist destination.
