Three Arrested for Assault in Chennai's Basin Bridge Amid Trans Group Rivalry

Basin Bridge Police in Chennai have arrested three individuals in connection with a violent assault stemming from an ongoing rivalry between two transgender groups in the Pulianthope area. The conflict reportedly began a month ago when Parthiban alias Surekha left Salma’s group to join a rival faction from Moolakothalam, leading to frequent verbal disputes. The situation escalated early Saturday when members of the rival group allegedly trespassed into the home of Dilsha, a member of Salma’s group, and damaged household appliances. On Sunday morning, as Salma and another individual, Kaviya, were heading to file a police complaint, they were intercepted by approximately ten people near the KP Park bus stop. The attackers, including Surekha, allegedly used obscene language, threw stones and beer bottles, and issued death threats. Kaviya sustained bleeding injuries and was hospitalized at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Following a complaint by Salma, police registered a case and arrested Deepan alias Diya, Vijayakumar alias Sumithra, and Rajiv alias Swathi. Authorities are currently searching for the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
