Temu Prepares for Direct Entry into South Korean Market with Local Logistics System
Chinese e-commerce giant PDD Holdings' cross-border platform, Temu, is reportedly preparing to make a direct entry into the South Korean market by establishing a localized logistics infrastructure. According to Yonhap News Agency, Temu has been actively recruiting South Korean employees for critical roles in human resources, general affairs, marketing, and logistics since late last year. The company aims to sign contracts with major local logistics firms through public bidding to create an integrated supply chain system within the country. This strategic move follows the establishment of its local subsidiary, Whaleco Korea LLC, in February 2023, and the launch of a dedicated South Korean website in July 2023. Industry experts suggest that Temu’s approach mirrors the localization strategy previously employed by AliExpress in South Korea. These efforts are designed to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience. Notably, Temu had already achieved significant popularity, becoming the most downloaded app among adults in South Korea during the first eleven months of 2024. This development signals a deepening commitment to the region and intensifying competition in the Asian e-commerce sector.
