Temple Priest Kidnapped and Assaulted Over Brother's Relationship in Bengaluru

The Byadarahalli police in Bengaluru have registered a case against three individuals for kidnapping and assaulting Kotresh, a 27-year-old temple priest. The incident stems from a dispute involving Kotresh’s younger brother, Shivakumar, who allegedly eloped with a woman whose family strongly opposed their relationship. After failing to locate the couple, the woman’s father, Basavaraj, and his relatives targeted Kotresh. The accused lured Kotresh under the pretext of discussing the matter at a police station, then abducted him to an undisclosed location. There, they tied him up, physically assaulted him, and recorded the torture. The perpetrators forced Kotresh to make a video statement demanding Shivakumar return the woman, which was circulated among relatives as a threat. Upon receiving the distressing footage, Kotresh’s family filed a complaint with the Byadarahalli Police Station. Following the registration of the case and the initiation of an investigation, the accused released Kotresh and fled. Charges include kidnapping, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and assault, with further investigations currently underway by local authorities.
