Telangana CM Seeks Governor's Approval for MLC Nominations of Kodandaram and Azharuddin

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla in Hyderabad to urge the expedited approval of pending nominations for the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota. The Chief Minister specifically sought clearance for Professor M. Kodandaram and Mohammad Azharuddin, whose names were previously approved by the State Cabinet but have remained pending since the tenure of the former Governor. The meeting highlights a pressing constitutional deadline, as Minister Mohammad Azharuddin is approaching the end of his six-month grace period to serve without being an elected member of the legislature. If not nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) by the end of April, he will be required to resign from his ministerial post. During the discussion, Revanth Reddy emphasized Kodandaram’s significant role in the Telangana statehood movement and the legal necessity of Azharuddin’s nomination. This issue follows a history of political contention regarding gubernatorial nominations in the state, including previous rejections by former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, which had led to legal and political standoffs.
