Telangana Revenue Department Directs Collectors to Implement Heatwave Mitigation Measures

The Revenue (Disaster Management) department of Telangana has issued an official memo directing district Collectors and various government departments to implement immediate measures in response to the prevailing heatwave and forecasts of worsening conditions. The department highlighted that extreme heat poses a silent but deadly risk, disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, outdoor workers, the urban poor, and livestock. Key mitigation strategies include activating cooling centers, establishing water kiosks in public areas, and modifying work schedules for migrant and outdoor laborers to avoid exposure during peak heat hours between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Additionally, the Education department has been instructed to ensure mandatory water breaks for students and consider school closures or reduced hours where necessary. Officials are also advised to promote regular water consumption among vulnerable populations. This directive aims to minimize health risks and potential fatalities associated with rising temperatures across the state, reflecting a proactive administrative approach to disaster management during severe weather events.
