Telangana Records Significant Temperature Drop as Heatwave Eases

Telangana state in India has experienced a notable decline in maximum temperatures, dropping from a peak of 46°C recorded in late April to 42°C on May 7, 2026. This relief follows a period of intense heat where temperatures across all 33 districts exceeded 42°C. The highest temperature on Thursday was recorded at 42°C in Adavi Devula Palli, Nalgonda, followed closely by readings in Nirmal and Mulugu. Urban centers also saw a decrease, with Hyderabad recording a maximum of 40.7°C, while Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri reported 39.9°C and 39.6°C respectively. The cooling trend is attributed to very light to moderate rainfall recorded in 162 of the state's 621 mandals. Looking ahead, the India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad Centre has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds for Friday, May 8, 2026. These weather conditions are expected to affect isolated parts of twelve districts, including Adilabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, and Mahabubnagar. This shift marks a significant change from the severe heatwave conditions that persisted through early May, offering temporary respite to residents across the region.
