Telangana Minister Orders 3 Lakh Tonne Urea Buffer Stock by Month-End

Tummala Nageswara Rao, the Agriculture Minister of Telangana, has directed state officials to establish a buffer stock of at least 3 lakh tonnes of urea by the end of May. This directive aims to ensure adequate supply for the upcoming Kharif agricultural season, particularly before paddy transplantation begins in early June. During a review meeting in Hyderabad with fertilizer company representatives and department officials, the Minister highlighted significant shortfalls in central allotments. Although the Centre allotted 10 lakh tonnes against the state's indent of 11.5 lakh tonnes, actual supplies have lagged, with only 1.53 lakh tonnes received in April and roughly 49,000 tonnes in May so far. The Minister instructed Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd to supply at least 90% of its production locally and urged other companies to meet their quotas promptly. Additionally, the government plans to promote nano urea usage through farmer experience videos on the 'rythu nestham' program. A new central app for subsidized fertilizer distribution will also be piloted in the Rangareddy and Medchal districts.
