TCL to Build World’s First 8.6-Gen Printed OLED Line in Guangzhou
TCL Technology, a major Chinese display and electronics manufacturer, has announced that its subsidiary, TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), will invest approximately US$4.1 billion (29.5 billion yuan) to construct the world’s first 8.6-generation printed OLED production line. Located in Guangzhou and developed in partnership with local government entities, the new facility is scheduled to begin construction in November 2025, with a projected build cycle of 24 months. The plant will have a monthly capacity of 22,500 glass substrates, specifically targeting the growing market for tablets, laptops, and monitors. This strategic move leverages TCL’s existing expertise, including its current G5.5 printed OLED line and a portfolio of over 9,700 OLED patents. The investment aligns with China’s broader initiative to advance next-generation display technologies amidst rising global demand for AMOLED screens, which are forecast to exceed 1.3 billion units in shipments by 2030. This development marks a significant milestone in the evolution of display manufacturing, positioning TCL at the forefront of large-scale printed OLED production.
