Taobao Instant Commerce to Launch 'Taobao Convenience Store' Chain via Merchant Authorization
Taobao Instant Commerce, the quick commerce division of Alibaba Group, is set to launch a new retail brand named 'Taobao Convenience Store.' According to reports from LatePost and an official update, the initiative is scheduled to go live on November 1. The first phase will feature 34 authorized stores across China, operating 24 hours a day with a promise of 30-minute delivery through warehouse-style operations. Unlike traditional retail models, Taobao Instant Commerce will not directly own or manage these physical locations. Instead, it will authorize qualified merchants to operate under the brand, providing them with essential support in traffic generation, supply chain management, and delivery logistics. In exchange, merchants must adhere to strict platform standards, including continuous operation and high-performance order handling. The stores are expected to offer approximately 10,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), covering diverse categories such as groceries, snacks, alcohol, electronics, baby products, and beauty items. This selection is roughly triple that of a typical convenience store, aiming to enhance consumer convenience and expand Alibaba's footprint in the instant retail sector.
