Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Orders Adequate Summer Drinking Water Supply

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay convened a high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat in Chennai on May 12, 2026, to address critical infrastructure challenges ahead of the summer peak and upcoming monsoon season. During the session, Mr. Vijay issued strict directives to officials from the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, as well as the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, ensuring uninterrupted drinking water availability across all districts and specifically within the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). To mitigate immediate supply shortages, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to deploy water lorries and utilize alternative distribution methods wherever necessary. Furthermore, the administration was ordered to accelerate desilting operations and complete flood mitigation works promptly to prepare for the monsoon. Key attendees included Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar and representatives from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board.
