Summer Staples Like Lemons and Earthen Pots See Price Surge in Bengaluru

As summer temperatures rise in Bengaluru, the prices of essential seasonal items such as lemons, tender coconuts, and earthen pots have increased significantly due to heightened demand. Lemons, which retailed for approximately ₹80 per kg in January, are now selling between ₹150 and ₹180 per kg, with traders predicting a further rise to ₹220-₹250 during peak summer months. Tender coconut prices have also seen a marginal increase, ranging from ₹50 to ₹70 per piece, influenced by supplies from neighboring states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In contrast, cucumber prices remain stable at ₹40-₹50 per kg. Beyond food, earthen pots are experiencing a surge in popularity, with prices expected to jump from the current ₹300-₹700 range to ₹1,100-₹1,200. Market vendors note that while wholesale hubs like Madiwala offer slightly lower rates than neighborhood markets such as Jayanagar, the retail price difference is minimal. This trend reflects typical seasonal market dynamics where initial scarcity and high demand drive up costs before potential stabilization later in the season.
