Students Design Error-Free EVM for College Elections

Two final-year students from the Department of Electronics and Artificial Intelligence at Agurchand Manmull Jain College in Meenambakkam have successfully designed a custom electronic voting machine (EVM) to streamline student council elections. Developed under the guidance of assistant professor Selva Kumar M, the device addresses the inefficiencies and errors associated with traditional manual ballot processes. The system utilizes an Arduino Mega board, an eight-bit processor, eight switches, a TFT display, and a memory card. Key features include visual candidate representation, audio feedback upon voting, a mechanism to prevent duplicate votes, and immediate result visualization via pie charts. After being tested during the 2025 Student Welfare Council elections, the innovation has received recognition at electronic competitions hosted by SRM University and Krishna College in Coimbatore. This initiative highlights the practical application of student engineering skills to solve local administrative challenges, garnering attention amidst broader discussions on digital voting infrastructure in Tamil Nadu.
