Steiff Recreates Paddington and Queen's Tea Party for Centenary Bear Launch
To commemorate what would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday, German toy manufacturer Steiff has launched a limited edition teddy bear dressed in the late monarch’s iconic lime green coat and hat. The launch event, held at Newby Hall, featured a recreation of the beloved Platinum Jubilee sketch where the Queen shared tea and marmalade sandwiches with Paddington Bear. In this tribute, a soft toy Paddington was positioned alongside the special edition Queen Elizabeth II Steiff bear. Ian Munro, Steiff’s director of international sales, highlighted the Queen’s dedication and service as central themes of the celebration. The collectible bears are limited to 4,996 units, symbolizing the Queen’s age at her passing, and are priced at £289 each. Each bear is individually numbered and features colored embroidery on the soles of its feet. This release honors the enduring cultural connection between the Royal Family and Paddington, a bond strengthened by public tributes of marmalade sandwiches and toys left at Buckingham Palace following the Queen's death in 2022.
